As the Principal Contractor for Defence Precinct Harold E Holt (HEH) located in Exmouth, Western Australia, Raytheon Australia provides services for the maintenance and operation of critical defence infrastructure including the Space Surveillance Telescope, Very Low Frequency (VLF) Communications Transmitter and C-Band Tracking Radar.

To support our mission, Raytheon Australia is currently seeking a motivated Systems Engineer who is ready to join a diverse, talented, and enthusiastic team of engineering professionals on-site in Exmouth or remotely from Henderson or Adelaide.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Systems Engineer will assist the HEH Precinct Major Projects Manager in the scoping and estimating future engineering works required to maintain the precinct’s infrastructure and critical capabilities. The position will also assist the Mission System and/or Utility Services Managers in the implementation of funded engineering changes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform a diverse range of systems engineering and technical tasks within the Defence sustainment environment, including requirements documentation, requirements verifications, systems analysis to derive function, trade studies, estimation, investigation, design, modification and maintenance.
  • Maintain the system design including the specifications and interface requirement as well as develop and maintain system level architecture design documents as required.
  • Plan, document and execute verification and validation activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments for regulatory compliance and propose solutions.
  • Liaise with the Engineering Manager on project engineering issues, design process and engineering change development in according to company and program procedures.
  • Develop solutions that meet customer requirements within cost, schedule, and quality constraints.
  • Plan, estimate and schedule engineering tasks and activities.
  • Develop and refine engineering processes in consultation with the engineering function as well as participate in technical reviews and audits.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent degree with relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of six years’ experience in operational and/or in-service support phases of major programs, preferably in Defence technology and/or construction related industries.
  • Willingness to become and maintain a Chartered Professional Engineering status via Engineers Australia.
  • Experience making improvements to processes, systems, or products to enhance performance.
  • Understanding of systems engineering, engineering support, maintenance support, and technical documentation disciplines.
  • Knowledge of product life cycle and experience with system performance metrics.
