We are hiring for a Senior Avionics Engineer to support the Avionics Lead and contribute to the Avionics Engineering activities in the Software, Electrical, GNC and Avionics department. As a Senior Engineer, you will be required to work alongside fellow engineers as well as the wider organisation, contributing to the product development and R&D activities associated with developing orbital class satellites and launch vehicles. You will work as part of a high performing team throughout the entire engineering lifecycle, from initial scoping to requirements definition, design, procurement, manufacture, testing, assembly and operations. You will be required to produce documentation and communicate across teams to ensure duties are performed in an efficient and timely manner whilst adhering to Gilmour Space policies and procedures.

- Contributing to a team of Avionics Engineers to deliver Avionics products and services
- Supporting the Lead Avionics Engineer with technical execution of work packages
- Participate in the development of Avionics engineering designs, processes and activities
- To undertake accountability as a Responsible Engineer for Avionics units/subsystems
- Ability to fulfill the role of Technical Authority on behalf of the Chief Engineer, as requested
- Leading technical assessments, including: concept studies, trade studies, analysis of COTS solutions and estimates for Research and Development
- Leading small product teams on a quarterly basis
- Adhering to and leading product development engineering processes involving: requirements definition, preliminary / detailed design, review, procurement / manufacture, assembly, integration, verification / validation and operations
- Supporting Avionics unit and integration testing and operations (may include travel to remote sites)
- Overseeing and sign-off of engineering designs, processes and activities
- Leading investigations, troubleshooting, modifications and fixes / repairs
- Leading execution of Avionics Research and Development activities
- Supporting architecture development, technology strategy and execution of the Avionics team
- Supporting Avionics engineering production activities associated with the Launch Vehicle and Satellite product lines
- Coordinating with the Mechanical, Propulsion and Manufacturing engineering departments as well as the Production organisation
- Engaging with external suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders
- Possessing and providing in-depth knowledge on Avionics regulations, industry standards, processes and state-of-the-art research
- Ensuring that engineering activities are conducted and documented in accordance with Gilmour Space policies, plans and procedures
- Other duties as requested by Management
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Computer Systems or Mechatronics Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in professional Avionics design engineering settings (excluding internships)
- 3+ years of end-to-end Avionics product development experience
- NV1 Security Clearance eligible
- Demonstrated resilience in high stress situations
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Experience in PCB development of analogue, digital and mixed signal circuits
- Experience with hands on testing, troubleshooting and debugging electronics
- Experience with baremetal, RTOS and embedded Linux software development
- Experience with FPGA/SoC hardware and software development
- Experience with mechanical design software (NX, Solidworks, Onshape)
- Experience designing highly reliable products
- Experience with the integration and verification of Avionics Units
- Experience performing electronics analysis and test (circuit simulation, power budgets, thermal analyses)
- Experience developing RF solutions (spectrum coordination, antenna design, RF modelling, link budgets, S-parameter / EMI testing)
- Demonstrated engineering experience within the space, aerospace or automotive industries
- Experience in Systems Engineering practices
- Experience with space engineering standards (GSFC-STD-7000A, SMC-S-016, RCC 319, DO-254, DO-178)
- Experience with both waterfall and agile project management frameworks
- Ability to work in a high-paced, challenging work environment
- Ability to work efficiently in a team environment with a desire and willingness to assist other team members in the general day to day running of the department
