Gilmour Space is the leading Australian rocket company, pioneering next-generation hybrid propulsion technologies for small satellite launch vehicles.

As part of the Launch Vehicle Operations team, you will be responsible for the final testing and integration of launch vehicle stages and the execution of launch operations at our orbital launch site in Bowen, Queensland. You will also be responsible for the conduct of propulsion tests on liquid bi-propellant engines, hybrid rocket engines, electric pump feed systems, and all associated sub-systems. In this role you will collaborate closely with engineering and technical teams to develop and execute test plans, deliver upgrades and maintenance to propulsion test stands, and implement improvements to enhance the reliability and performance of various launch vehicle systems.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

  • Complete integration activities of components, sub systems, and payloads on orbital and sub-orbital class launch vehicles.
  • Operate Ground Support Equipment and Ground Launch Systems during high level system testing.
  • Operation of and direction to teams operating test stands and infrastructure to efficiently, effectively and safely execute rocket engine and sub-system testing.
  • Develop and execute maintenance plans for test infrastructure, stands, and associated systems.
  • Prepare and conduct testing and test reviews in accordance with policies, plans and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot test systems and articles and perform root cause analysis
  • Assist/Lead research, development, qualification and acceptance tests of launch vehicle sub-systems.
  • Undertake explosive simulations and analysis for risk assessment and safety case development.
  • Develop and review procedures and checklist for executing testing and integration operations and maintenance.
  • Develop and review procedures for manufacturing and maintaining test components, assets and infrastructure
  • Other duties as requested by Management

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion, mechanical, fluid system design and analysis in a professional setting (excluding internships)
  • 1+ year experience with CAD designing parts and assemblies, or
  • 3+ years hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly, integration and testing of pressurised components and structures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers
  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years experience of professional experience in rocket propulsion or launch vehicle operations
  • 1+ year experience with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package
  • Knowledge of standards concerning the design of high-pressure fluid systems
