The Flight Software Engineer I role is to support the Flight Software Engineering activities in the Software, Electrical, GNC and Avionics department. As a junior engineer, you will be required to work alongside fellow engineers as well as the wider organisation, contributing to the product development and R&D activities associated with developing launch vehicles and/or satellites. You will work as part of a high performing team, architecting solutions, developing advanced embedded software (including Guidance, Navigation and Control algorithms), conducting reviews, supporting DevOps, testing and operations. You will be required to produce documentation and communicate across teams to ensure duties are performed in an efficient and timely manner whilst adhering to Gilmour Space policies and procedures.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

- Contributing as part of a team of Software Engineers to deliver Software products and services
- Participating in the development of Software engineering designs, processes and activities
- To undertake accountability as a Responsible Engineer for Software units
- Conduct technical assessments, including: concept studies, trade studies, analysis of COTS solutions and estimates for Research and Development
- Adhering to and participating in product development engineering processes including: requirements definition, preliminary / detailed design, review, procurement / manufacture, assembly, integration and verification / validation
- Supporting Software unit and integration testing and operations (may include travel to remote sites)
- Supporting investigations, troubleshooting, modifications and fixes / repairs
- Supporting execution of Research and Development activities
- Supporting Software engineering production activities associated with the Launch Vehicle and Satellite product lines
- Coordinating with the Mechanical, Propulsion and Manufacturing engineering departments as well as the Production organisation
- Engaging with external suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders
- Ensuring that engineering activities are conducted and documented in accordance with Gilmour Space policies, plans and procedures
- Other duties as requested by Management
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Software, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics or Mechatronics Engineering, or a relevant qualification
- Ability to operate in dynamic, fast paced environments
- Demonstrated resilience in high stress situations
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Familiarity with C/C++, Python, MATLAB
- Familiarity with baremetal, RTOS and embedded Linux software development
- Familiarity with FPGA software development (VHDL/Verilog)
- Familiarity developing Guidance, Navigation, Control (GNC) algorithms
- Familiarity with aerospace software engineering standards (eg. DO-178C)
- Familiarity writing both inline and markdown software documentation
- Familiarity using static / dynamic analysis and code coverage tools
- Familiarity using software debugging tools (eg. GDB)
- Familiarity developing unit and integration tests
- Familiarity using git workflows
- Familiarity conducting DevOps activities (managing infrastructure, developing CI/CD capabilities)
- Familiarity developing software in accordance with Waterfall and Agile management frameworks
- Understanding of Systems Engineering practises
- Demonstrated engineering experience within the space, aerospace or automotive industries
- Demonstrated ability to work in a high-paced, challenging work environment
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a team environment with a desire and willingness to assist other team members
