An opportunity is now available for an Engineering Manager to support the delivery of Australia’s National Advance Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) under Project Land 19 Phase 7B.

Project Land 19 Phase 7B will acquire an advance Short Range Ground Based Air Defence (SRGBAD) capability for the Australian Army. This is a major acquisition contract which will involve working with key overseas partners and the establishment and management of a significant Australian Industry Capability program for local suppliers.

The Engineering Manager is required to manage project engineering activities, IV&V event co-ordination, process control, configuration control and standardisation in order to successfully deliver the overall SRGBAD System. The Engineering Manager is responsible for the delivery of activities within cost and schedule constraints whilst ensuring adherence to established processes and/or contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, co-ordination and management of Product engineering operations, including support to subcontract management and technical integrity risk management in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures and ensure compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
  • Manage/oversee the Integrated Product Teams engineering program activities, specialty engineering areas such as security, system safety, EMI/EMC, explosive ordnance and technical data configuration management.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including internal stakeholders, customers, vendors, suppliers and contractors and provision and planning of engineering resources, necessary to meet the project’s technical obligations.
  • Establish, review and implement engineering strategies and plans for the project and monitor adherence to program master plans and schedules.
  • Develop, manage, maintain and report engineering program status and progress according to the key performance indicators.
  • Support development of engineering estimates, basis of estimates, work breakdown structures and schedules as providing input to estimates at completion, project management reviews, engineering commitment letters, or other engineering planning activities.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the Land 19 project team to deliver the contracted outcomes and beyond by keeping up-to-date with emerging processes and practices relevant to services/programs/products delivered.

Skills Experience and Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications and professional development sufficient to attain recognition as Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia in a relevant engineering stream with a minimum of 10 years prior relevant engineering experience.
  • Requires advanced knowledge and skills specifically within requirements definition, requirements management, requirements analysis, design, integration, verification and validation with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organisation.
  • Requires broad management knowledge to lead project teams in the Function / Product Line with a focus on policy and strategy implementation.
  • Experience communicating with parties within and outside of own job function, including external customers or vendors.
  • Experience explaining policies, practices and procedures in relation to the work area to others within the organisation and when necessary, work to justify/gain co-operation of other parties on practices, policies and procedures. Will require the ability to often influence others outside of own work area on policies, practices and procedures.
  • Experience in the development, delivery, and integration of complex military electronic systems.
