Full time, fixed term contract (12 – 18 months)
Location: Homebush, NSW (with some travel required)

The Role

The Project Engineer will reports to the Group Leader for Systems Engineering and be responsible for providing support to Project and Contract Managers for coordinating the development and provision of deliverables for Acquisition and Through Life Support projects. These projects include Defence aircraft simulators and associated training systems and devices.

The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, directing, controlling and monitoring technical project activities to meet cost, schedule, and technical obligations for the project. The Project Engineer provides the interface between Engineering representatives of the Customer and CAE’s engineering teams.

We are currently seeking a Project Engineer to commence work as soon as possible.  This role can be seen as part of a growth opportunity at CAE and offer the chosen engineer the opportunity to lead a team and enhance their communication skills, specifically for liaising with our Defence and Defence Industry customers. This position will be located at CAE Australia’s head office in Homebush.

The ideal candidate will be motivated, enthusiastic, a good communicator and possess the ability to motivate a team and project stakeholders to deliver according to schedule. Roles & Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Management of Projects

  • General – Systems / Project Engineering Activities:
  • Overall accountability for the design integrity of projects
  • Ensuring that Engineering and QA process and policies are being adhered to
  • Ensuring communication amongst team members and facilitate a collaborative and supportive environment
  • Technical management, coordination and quality control (review) of Systems Engineering plans, design documents, presentations
  • Maintain the contractual understanding and context relating to the assigned projects
  • Content management and coordination of Systems Engineering tools e.g. DOORS, Jira, and information databases
  • Develop and monitor Systems Engineering metrics and Engineering/Quality KPIs
  • Adapt the Project Engineering role in accordance with the Systems Engineering phases throughout the project delivery life-cycle
  • Lead Systems Engineering related design reviews, prepare presentation templates, capture minutes, maintain and coordinate meeting action logs
  • Maintain oversight of the Configuration Baselines including preparing and coordinating Engineering Change Proposals
  • Coordinate, review and monitor engineering workgroups;

Through Life Support:

  • Task/Build management which involves coordination of Build planning meetings and associated task definitions, monitoring and coordination
  • Active participation in Customer meetings such as Build Planning, Build Kick-Off, Simulator Configuration Control Board meetings.
  • Actively manage and coordinate engineering Task Requests undertaken within CAE Engineering teams
  • Support to Test and Specialty Engineering
  • Assisting the Requirements Engineer to develop and/or maintain the Requirements Database for the assigned projects and maintain requirement consistency and project context.
  • Assisting Test Engineering in the allocation of Qualification Methods and V&V phases to requirements
  • Support review of test documentation and plans,
  • Support the conduct of testing and system acceptance and the development and monitoring of test metrics and issue rectification

Customer Interface

  • As prime technical interface with customer, the Project Engineer is responsible for the customer level of technical confidence in the project
  • Represent CAE-A as initial point of contact for the Customer Engineering representative(s) and provides a consistent interface between the CoA and CAE-A engineering teams.
  • Accountable for mandated and ad hoc systems reviews
  • Accountable for effectiveness of response to technical requirements and questions
  • Accountable for the efficacy of customer reporting

Qualifications and Experience/Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following:

  • Work related experience greater than 5 years
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven work environment
  • Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Intermediate to Advanced experience with Microsoft Suite Applications
  • Experience with SharePoint and Jira (desirable)

Note: as the Australian Department of Defence is a major client, you must be eligible for SECRET (NV1) level Defence security clearance, and preferably already hold a current SECRET (NV1) clearance.
