About the role

The role of the Assistant Production Manager (APM) is to support the Production Manager in safely delivering External Maintenance Availabilities (EMA) / Maintenance Window of Opportunity (MWO) and Defect Rectification Periods (DRP) on contracted defence platforms. The APM will be responsible for overall subcontractor performance at Project level and will provide leadership to the Subcontractor Coordinators ensuring improvement initiatives are developed and recognised. 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the HSE drive for a “Safety First” Culture on Project;  
  • Mentor, Manage and provide leadership to Subcontractor Coordinators;  
  • Engagement of subcontractors to support the project requirements; 
  • Ensure Subcontractor task allocation is aligned to the NSM Procurement Policy; 
  • Assist in the evaluation of subcontractors’ variation claims and review estimates for emergent works ensuring Value for Money (VFM); 
  • Provide continuous subcontractor performance reviews to all stakeholders; and   
  • Manage the collection of schedule data from subcontractors for assigned projects. 

 

About you

Essential:

  • Strong commitment to developing and maintaining a safe working environment; 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel;  
  • Knowledge of accounting and purchasing/ process/ systems (SAP or other similar systems); 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; 
  • Ability to work independently to meet multiple deadlines; 
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and maintain morale of subordinates; and 
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills. 

 

Desirable:

  • AMPS experience; 
  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering or Trade background and experience to equivalent; and 
  • Project Management Systems experience. 

 

Essential Compliance Requirements:

  • Must either hold, or be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance; and 
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card).
