The role

As a Principal Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role is based within our Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) business; the SSE mission is to deliver submarine programme and engineering excellence through enterprise collaboration, innovation and analytics. Within SSE, the Mission Systems team provide essential support to the Royal Navy submarine fleet through specialist strategic and combat systems engineers and specialists. 

 

Day to day, you will take on a key role in the submarine delivery enterprise as a Strategic Weapons Specialist, representing CSSE programmes and activity review. Your role will include stakeholder management and engagement, data analysis and management of risk. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Engineering Leader to assume a key role in Babcock’s contribution to the Submarine Strategic Weapons (SW) Enterprise. 

 

  • Providing specialist in-service support and advice to Chief Strategic Systems Executive (CSSE) through conducting data analysis in MS Excel and Primavera P6.
  • Conducting programme analysis across the submarine portfolio.
  • Supporting risk analysis and to progress risk characterisation studies.
  • Applying engineering and project management domain knowledge towards producing technical and logistical solutions for delivery of products and services.

 

Essential experience of the Principal Engineer:

  • Experience in customer-facing roles and working in the MoD / Industry Strategic Weapons Enterprise (SWS).
  • Experience leading or contributing to programming activities and development, including strategic thinking, in the SSBN community and elsewhere.
  • You’ll need to have worked with safety-critical systems and have change control/change management experience within projects and strategic systems knowledge for submarines.

 

This role offers hybrid working depending on company needs, with approximately two-three days working at home. 

 

Qualifications for the Principal Engineer:

  • Minimum Level Six qualification in an engineering / science discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it).

 

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who holds, or is able to achieve ‘SC’ level security clearance.
